What is the School Age Child Care Program?
The purpose of the School Age Child Care program is to meet the needs of the local community by offering working parents an affordable and safe environment for their kindergarten through fifth grade children during hours that extend beyond the school day. Currently, School Age Child Care program offers one after-school program and one summer child care program at the Blue Mountain Elementary East building. The programs are licensed by the Department of Public Welfare (DPW) and operate under the authority of the Blue Mountain Recreation Commission.
After School Child Care Program notes:
- After School Child Care is only at the BME-East building.
- Program runs from after school to 6 P.M.
- Including half days for Act 80 days and parent-teacher conferences.
- Program is for Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students.
- When school is closed due to bad weather, our child care program is too.
- If it is unsafe for the children to attend school, it is unsafe for our program.
- There are Full Time and Part Time spots.
- There is a fee for the program.

Summer Child Care Program notes:
- Summer Child Care Program is at the BME-East & BME-Cressona buildings.
- Program runs from 6:45 AM to 5:30 P.M.
- Program is for completed Kindergarten through Fifth Grade students.
- There are Part Time and Full Time spots. Drop in service when space is available.
- We offer weekly OFF SITE trips to various local entertainment places, for an extra fee.
- There is a fee for the program.
- BMRC Swim Lesson and Swim Team pick up/drop off accommodations (for BME-East site ONLY). Fee associated with lesson or team. Please speak to Sara or Georgiann for more details.
- Junior Leadership Program
- This program for working parents who need child care hours but have children in grades 6-8. If your children have been in our Child Care program in the past, they can apply to be part of the program. A limited number of spots are available AND not everyone is accepted.
- This program will give your child the safety of being in our care for the hours you need but give them behind the scenes look at the program as well as provide them an opportunity to gain experience and leadership skills. There is a fee for the program.

NOTES:
- The site is licensed by the Department of Public Welfare.
- Students are accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis with Resident students coming first.
- SUMMER: Discounted rates for families with more than one child in the program that are registered for full time care and are residents of Blue Mt. School District.
STAFF
All site staff must be 18 years of age or older, pass state required clearances, complete courses in first aid, CPR, and fire safety. Most supervisors are either teachers, substitute teachers, or attempting to complete their education in teaching.
PROGRAM
Activities will include recreation, both indoors and outside, arts and crafts, organized games, snack, homework time (during school year), trips, group activities, individual play, and unstructured play time.
EXAMPLE OF ACTIVITIES
Our goal is to provide quality child care with an emphasis on recreational and fun learning activities for the children. Each day could include:
- SPECIAL EVENTS
- TRIPS (summer only)
- PHYSICAL RECREATION
- SNACKS (2 per day in summer, one at after school)
- Each child must bring a brown bag lunch and something to drink on full service days (including summer).
- HOMEWORK TIME
- FREE TIME
