PTO Event and Meeting

As you may have heard, the Blue Mountain Elementary East will be playing a part in the Ragnar Relay Race.  Ragnar is a 200 mile race extending from Lancaster to the Poconos.  Each team is composed of several racers and a crew that travels with them.  Our building has been established as a major stopping point.  What this means is that racers and their teams will be stopping by our facility to eat, shower and briefly sleep.  This serves as a great opportunity for PTO to get involved with our community and do a little fundraising at the same time.

What do we need to do? Well our plan is to serve spaghetti which we will be cooking in our cafeteria (we have a lot of pasta left from our last spaghetti dinner and the sauce is coming from Russo’s).  Just BBQ is providing chili, Valenti’s is donating a soup and Kat S. is  making chicken noodle soup. We are asking for donations of bagels, fresh fruit, cream cheese, coffee, tea and cocoa along with paper items and a few baked goods.  All items can be purchased by the teams.  We will be assembling shower packs composed of shampoo, soap, toothbrush and toothpaste which can be purchased for use in the middle school showers.

What does this mean for you? We will be needing volunteers to prepare the items and to be available the  evening of the event.

When? Friday, October 5th. We’ll need some volunteers to prepare the spaghetti and get things setup around 8:00 pm.  The teams are planning on eating around 10 :00 pm. We need volunteers to be available in 3-4 hour shifts from 8:00 pm Fri until anywhere from 4-6:00 am.

So spread the word! If you know of any night owls with some time on their hands, point them in our direction. Families, friends and neighbors can help too.  If you are interested in being part of this incredible event, you can reply to this email or call Stacy at 570-527-3436 to let us know which block of time you will be available. You’re also welcome to attend our next PTO meeting on Wed, October 3rd at 6pm in the cafeteria where we will be finalizing plans. Once again, thank you for all you do to make PTO a success and to be an active part in the lives of your children.
