HS: Letter From Principal

Dear Parents and Guardians:

It is with warm and personal greetings that we welcome you to Blue Mountain High School. We hope to share with you the academic, social, and athletic aspects of our fine school. Blue Mountain is a place where young men and women come to learn more about themselves, their community, and global connections, and to prepare themselves for the realities of work and citizenship in the modern world. Blue Mountain is rich in history and tradition, holding tightly to the founding principles, yet reaching into the future and embracing new ideas.

Blue Mountain prizes itself on its high academic standards and on the accessibility of a rigorous curriculum for all students. From interesting electives to our advanced placement courses, our students enjoy a diverse curriculum taught by experienced professionals dedicated to providing the best education possible. Eligible juniors and seniors have a unique opportunity to earn college credit by enrolling in our Dual Enrollment Program offered through several local colleges.

With increased expectations in every class because of the Pennsylvania State Standards, with the requirement to reach proficiency on the PSSA, and with the increased pre-requisites for entry to post secondary schools, the level of preparation required by all high school students is definitely on the rise. We encourage all students at Blue Mountain High School to read all classroom material thoroughly, work on the ability to write effectively and efficiently, do all of the assigned homework, cooperate with teachers and peers, and meet all graduation requirements, so that each student can be prepared to continue his or her education and succeed in the work and community.

It is our belief that all students benefit through their involvement in school life, therefore a strong emphasis is placed on student participation in activities beyond the classroom. Whether in sports, clubs, or community projects, our young men and women know the value of educating the whole person. The students of Blue Mountain take pride in working and playing together, and in serving the community. We hope that each student will join an activity that interests them.

Finally, we want to again encourage parents to get involved beyond the specific booster clubs for sports, band, or cheer to participate in school wide supports. Please consider attending meetings of the Principal’s Advisory Team. Having parents get involved helps all our students. Student academic success and personal responsibility are truly dependent on a cooperative triangle comprised of the student-teacher-parent/guardian. We encourage and depend on you to take an active and supportive role in your son’s/daughter’s education at Blue Mountain High School, and we look forward to your continued support and personal involvement in the weeks and months ahead.

Thank you for your continued support of all our students’ education at Blue Mountain.

Mr. Kevin W. Berger
