BMECW Clearance Information – School Volunteers

Those who wish to volunteer in any capacity as a direct volunteer (Direct Volunteer – Direct volunteer contact is defined as the care, supervision, guidance or control of children and routine interaction with children. Routine interaction is the regular and repeated contact that is integral to a volunteer’s responsibilities) with any BMECW student/s during the 2015/2016 school year must have the following clearances on file in the office as per Act 15:

  1. Child Abuse History:
  2. PA State Police Criminal Record Check:

These clearances are free of charge and will be kept confidential.

If you have lived out of the state of Pennsylvania in the past 10 years, you are required to get the FBI Fingerprinting Clearance.  This clearance is not free.

      3. FBI Background Check:  (CHOOSE: PA Dept of Education)      

These clearances are valid for five years and will be kept in the BMECW offices.  The PTO will utilize this list of names when looking for volunteers for activities

Science Explorers Club: Freaky Physics –Important Information

  • 3rd – 5th Grade Club, scheduled to begin Wednesday, January 27th will NOW begin on Wednesday, February 3rd and run up to Wednesday, March 2nd.
  • 1st – 2nd Grade Club, scheduled to begin Thursday, January 28th will NOW begin on Thursday, February 4th and run up to Thursday, March 3rd.

Revision of Current Immunization Regulations

The Departments of Health and Education are proposing the following revisions to the current Immunization regulations in an effort to improve Pennsylvania’s immunization rate.  These changes will be important as we prepare for kindergarten registration for the 2016-17 school year.  In addition, the changes will impact students entering Grade 7 who are required to show evidence of having had the Tdap and Menactra vaccination.

In most states, children are required to have all recommended immunizations PRIOR to entering school.  In Pennsylvania, current regulations allow a provisional period of 8 months for the child to provide evidence of full vaccination.

Please make note of the following proposed changes:

**The provisional enrollment period will change from 8 months to 5 days to provide evidence of full vaccination

**If additional immunizations are required for completion of a series, a medical certificate from the student’s health care provider will be required outlining the dates for additional immunizations.

** A review of records/compliance will take place every 30 days (currently review takes place every 60 days)

No changes are being made to the following regulations:

Students who are not compliant may be excluded from school until requirements are met.

Parents may still request exemption based on a religious or philosophical belief or provide a medical exemption due to a health condition.
