Letter from the Assistant Principal

Dear BMECW families,

I am honored to have the opportunity to briefly introduce myself.  My name is Tom Bonner, and I have the privilege of fulfilling the role as Assistant Principal of Blue Mountain Elementary West and Cressona.

I am a Blue Mountain graduate and have been working in the Blue Mountain School District for the past 8 years.  My professional experience has included working with students from grades 4-12, with the majority of it being a science teacher at our middle school.

I currently live in the Blue Mountain School District with my wife Katie and three children Kailin (7), Quinn (5) and Maddox (1).

I am a graduate of Alvernia University, where I attained a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education.  I achieved my Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership with Principal Certification from Wilkes University. My goal is to maintain a positive learning environment where all students feel safe and have the resources they need to be successful.

I am very confident that the BMECW staff will continue to meet the intellectual, physical, and social/ emotional needs of your children, our students.  Partnering with you and your children, I am looking forward to the rest of the 2016-2017 school year. If you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to call our main office or email me.  I believe open communication is very essential in a school and encourage you to reach out to myself or Mrs. Frederick with any questions you may have.  I look forward to meeting you and thank you in advance for welcoming me into this remarkable learning community.

HONESTY, RESPECT, and RESPONSIBILITY defines the “The Eagle Way” here at Blue Mountain. You can be assured that I will uphold these values personally, as your Assistant Principal. Thank you for your time and your continued support.

WS:Letter from the Principal

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Blue Mountain Elementary West!  Upon entering the doors at BMEW, you will immediately feel our sense of pride and strong belief that all children can achieve great things.  Our staff is dedicated to making sure each child feels safe and welcome each and every day.

In order to ensure the safety of our students, please make sure you bring photo identification when you come to visit.  We invite you to become an active participant in our school community through volunteering, joining our PTO, or attending and supporting school events.  Research clearly supports that when parents/guardians participate and are involved in their child’s education, there is a greater likelihood of academic success for their child.

Our school community strives to instill in each child the excitement that comes with learning, where the bar is set high and academics are aligned to the Pennsylvania Core Standards.   The goal of our staff is to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of each child.  BMEW teachers work incredibly hard to offer varied instruction and opportunities for our students.  We have a new math series this year entitled Math in Focus.  It is a challenging and thorough program that encourages students to learn math with deeper understanding.

Along with academic excellence, BMEW is also committed to the social and emotional needs of our students.  The Eagle Way is our character program that consists of three key characteristics that will be stressed throughout the year and throughout the district.  The characteristics are honesty, respect, and responsibility.  As the principal, I will be taking an active role in reinforcing this code of conduct.  Part of my daily responsibility is to handle discipline in the school, and therefore, it is my intention to use the characteristics of “The Eagle Way” as the focal point for these discussions.

Communication is the key to a successful educational experience. Together, we will continue to improve the quality of our school community and provide the best for the children of BMEW.  Education is a partnership between the school, students, parents/guardians, and community.   We treasure the opportunity to work in partnership with you to see that your child has a positive experience at BMEW.

Thank you for visiting our webpage!  We are committed to providing a nurturing environment with a curriculum that demands academic excellence, encourages positive self-esteem, and promotes responsible citizenship.  Please feel free to contact me for any reason.  Thank you in advance for your support and partnership in your child’s education.  I hope to see you soon.
